Ok, so, at this point, I think we should at least create a bare-bones plot structure to explain HOW DA F#$@ all these awesome characters come together. I'm not going to try and spool everything we've got so far, cuz one of the threads 404'd.... Basic, non-arguable facts: -MC is Japanese -Story takes place in Japan. -The initial concept was that the MC is the only Japanese kid in the class. -We're doing this in English (por favor) -This takes place in a High School - (Will add to this as time goes on)

Ok, so I'll start-
MC- a Japanese boy with a no-nonsense attitude (so shoot me) Lives a life of "pain and misery" due to the eccentricies of his parents. His mother is the principal of an International School known for a number of things, namely having the lowest the Japanese student population. His Dad works as the school nurse, though he secretly attempts to find paranormal beings in the hallways of the school. School name? I dunno...
That's what i've got so far....

(Shh... I'm half-asleep here... I can't read through everything... I'll summarize it later...)
EDIT: It has occurred to me that my fears were rather unnecessary... most of the posts were concerned with character traits and changes... In other words... WE NEED MORE IDEAS PEEPS!!!!

If his dad is the school nurse, he should first meet the invalid mexican girl at the infirmary when he goes to talk to him or something. That too cliche?

OK, rule #2 has been rejected, so everyone can go ahead and ignore it.
Here's what we've come up with so far in IRC:
MC wakes up, has breakfast, rides his bike through town to school. Minor hints at backstory abound. In class, he and his genius teacher—who's the same age as he—dick around, have affairs, and doing very little work. They're the only ones in the class and it's not supposed to be like that. Today they decide to play hooky. They go wandering about the countryside, talking about things, maybe revealing why everyone else transferred out of the class. Then, CG time. Camera pans up, showing a rustic village, two moons, and a few shuttles in this backwater colony somewhere on Mars. Cue title and all that.
Mars 2198 AD, MC and his teacher/childhood friend (maybe) go into town to acquire batteries for MC's Gamboy Pocket. MC is a big retro electronics buff, by the way. The only electronics shop in town is owned by the teacher's parents, whom she is on poor terms with. She stays outside while the MC wanders the store looking for some AA's. He finds an old laptop and fools around with it, exchanging pleasantries with the owner, Teacher's father. The parents mean to use to MC as a conduit for getting back into their daughter's life; the father asks the MC how she's doing, her teaching ability, etc. There may or may not be a choice here. MC goes outside and finds teacher conversing with children.
That's it, so far.
BACKGROUND ON TEACHER AND MC AND THEIR STORY MC was born on a japanese colony ship bound for Mars. He and his family finally hit planetside when he was only a few months old. They've lived there since. Teacher was born over on Earth. At twelve months her family moved shop to Mars. She's a bit of a dreamer, longing to go back to Earth. MC doesn't care about Earth and wants her to stay here.
Teacher has an extreme dislike for the inhuman methods of teaching taking place, nowadays. She rejects the “holovid” method and teaches students herself, luckily she's a genius. Somehow her relationship with her parents becomes rocky.
The ultimate goal of their story is the reparation of her relationship with her parents. The MC is the focal point, but as time goes on the line between helper and friend gets blurry. The laptop the MC finds in the shop is a key element in this story.
gguy123 indicated that he has stuff planned out for her so I think he gets to do the Teacher's route.
We've yet to figure out why everyone's transferred out of the class (likely because the Teacher sucks at teaching or her method is too radical or something) so if you've got ideas feel free to post them or bug everyone on IRC about them.
Also, Teacher and MC still have no names. MC needs a Jap name but the Teacher's can be anything. Suggestions are welcome.
EDIT: Changed his age from four years to a few months, as travel time to Mars at its closest point takes does not, in fact, take ten years. Whoops.

I'll take the blame for that. I'm not a Physics guy... I was just guesstimating...
